This is my first visit to a Sento in Kyoto. Although I've been to Kyoto several times, I had never considered visiting a Sento before. This experience has revealed a new and enjoyable aspect of this historic city.
Unfortunately, many Sento establishments have closed recently due to inflation and a lack of successors. However, some companies have taken over these old places, striving to preserve the Sento culture for future generations.
Umeyu is one such Sento. The atmosphere here is imbued with a nostalgic charm. While it felt a bit unusual to me, I could sense that the younger generation appreciates maintaining the old-school style sauna. Their cold water bath, in particular, was remarkable. As a tourist from Tokyo, I noticed that the water in Kyoto is quite different. It is clear and soft, allowing me to soak in the cold bath for over a minute.
Although this place is undeniably old and not exceptionally clean, I believe that sauna enthusiasts can still enjoy its unique atmosphere.
